Production of the M4 Sherman took place between 1942 and 1944,after design began in 1939, and with 6750 being built it that time, made it the third most manufactured type of the entire Sherman family.

Designed as a medium tank and armed with a 75mm main gun, it was very advanced for its time, with a primitive gyrostabiliser which in theory made firing on the move more accurate.

When the M4 first appeared in combat it proved to be superior to the German opposition, with the exception of the Tiger I. It was in North Africa, used by the British in combat first, and then it was used across both the European theatre as well as the Far East and Pacific campaigns, and was the most widely used tank type in the Allied armoury up to 1945.

This model is among the first in our ‘Main Battle Tanks’ of World War 2 for the British, American and German armies, and in keeping with our other products in the range, is again ‘28mm detail in 12mm tanks’.
