The Panzerjager 1 was the first German tank hunter, and was armed with the Czech 47mmL38 main gun. Mounted on a Panzer I chassis it was specifically designed to take on heavy French tanks, such as the Char B series. Between 1940 and 1941 over 200 were built, and were deployed during the French campaign, as well as North Africa and on the Eastern Front.
