Once Germany had taken over Czechoslovakia in 1938 it was found that the Czech armaments industry had a tank on the production line that was better than any the Germans had, the LT vz. 38. Re designated the Panzer 38t the tank proved its quality during the Poland campaign in 1939, and in France in 1940. The chassis was used for many German armoured vehicles as the war progressed, the most widely developed being the Hetzer tank destroyer.
