A big improvement on the Italian 1930s fixation on 'tankettes', the L6-40 light tank, introduced in 1940 was itself obsolete to start with. Thin armour, 20mm autocannon and one machinegun, along with an average at best speed it was not a loved vehicle, and it was no match for Allied armour. Though over 400 were built the fact that the Germans were not keen to take over the remaining vehicles says it all.
