The Hetzer was based on a modified Czech Panzer 38t chassis. It first entered service in 1941 and more than 2800 were produced, becoming a major German tank destroyer type during the latter stages of World War 2.
Armed with the PaK39 75mm/L48 gun, and with its low profile it was a most effective tank killer, being issued in large numbers for the anti tank companies of the new Volksgrenadier Divisions.
