The Russian T62 entered service in the Russian Army in 1961, a linear development of the T55. It fielded the new 115mm msmoothbore main gun which could penetrate the armour of the latest NATO tanks.
Again a low profile tank like the T55 the T62 had the ability to create its own smoke screen and though this was a great improvement on the previous model, only around 23000 were built, it's relatively high cost putting off many potentil international buyers. Nonetheless, this tank took part in many of the wars from the 1970s to today, from the Middle East and Afghanistan to the Ukraine.
