Introduced as an amphibious light tank, the PT76 entered Russian service in 1951 and continued in production until 1969. Armed with a 76mm main gun it was an effective reconnaissance vehicle and made its name in the Vietnam War, and later conflicts in the Middle East, from 1967 onwards, as well as the Gulf wars. Around 12000 were produced in total.
