Designed in South Africa, the Marmon Herrington armoured car entered service in 1940, seeing extensive service in the British 8th Army, gaining an excellent reputation for reliability, and often having field modifications from its standard 2 pounder gun (or Boyes AT Rifle) & parallel MG, these being usually Italian guns of different small calibres. The various marks continued in service until 1943, a total of over 5000 being produced. (And some were used up to the 1990s!)
