Armed with a 90mm anti tank gun the American Jackson fielded a gun which could take on, and beat the German Panther and Tiger tanks. It entered service in Europe in October 1944. 1342 were built, and were very popular with their crews, but like all American tank destroyers, it was lightly armoured, and therefore was not designed to trade blows with the enemy, but to fire from concealed positions... and then disappear before the enemy spotted it.
