The Marder series of tank destroyer means 'Martin' in English. This model is the Marder II, built on the Panzer II chassis with the 75mm PaK40 AT gun. Open topped, the Marder II was in production from 1942 to 1945, and nearly 900 were produced.
The majority of these tank destroyers were used on the Eastern Front and were to be found in both panzer as well as infantry divisions, and were considered to be fine defensive armoured vehicles.
