Developed from its predecessor, the M3 Stuart, the M5 Stuart and the main feature of its difference being the engine used, nearly 9000 were produced for the reconnaissance and scouting role, the armament remaining the same as the precursor, a 37mm main gun and between 2 and 3 machineguns. The M5 was used by the British Army as well as the US Army, and served in all theatres.
