334 KVII assault howitzers were built between 1939 and 1941. The KVII was the result of experience in the Finnish War when enemy bunkers proved resistant to other tank weapons. The result was the huge turreted KVII, which could only fire its 152mm howitzer on a flat surface, with one round fired per 3 minutes. It was very well armoured but most were lost in 1941 due to mechanical breakdown. By the end of 1942 the few survivors were withdrawn.
