The italian M13-40 medium tank was introduced just as the Italian Army entered World War 2, and was effectively obsolete at that point, though the main armament of a 47mm gun and up to 4 machineguns gave it a good offensive capability. Its poor armour and slow speed were its downfall particularly in North Africa.
Over 700 were produced, and many survivors after the Italian surrender were incorporated into the German Army, often for use in anti partisan duties.
