The Russian T72 Main Battle Tank began to appear in the Russian Army in 1973 and was the most common tank in the Warsaw Pact throughout the rest of the 1970s up to the end ofthe Soviet Union in the early 1990s. The tank, armed with a 125mm smoothbore main gun is still produced today, with over 25000 built, and operating in many countries. In the current war in the Ukraine, it has been the main tank used by the Russians, often difficult to identify as mesh anti drone canopies are often festooning them.
