
Heavily armed and armoured, and using the Matador heavy truck chassis, the first prototype was produced in 1941 and by 1942 the Mk1 with a Valentine turret (2 pounder gun), co-ax Besa MMG and a bren gun was in production, 126 being produced, and used in the Western Desert with success, even though the vehicle was ‘tall’ and not particularly fast. This armoured car was particularly popular with the men of the Indian Army.
